Texas revs up to 75 mph on 1,500 miles of highways

Transportation officials have signed off on a faster speed limit of 75 mph for 1,500 miles of Texas highways.

The Texas Transportation Commission approved the change Thursday for segments of nine interstates where the current limit is 70 mph.

Stretches of road in El Paso that will change to 75 mph are: mile marker 0 to mile marker 8, up to the El Paso city limits where the speed limit is 70 mph; and mile marker 36 to mile marker 62, up to the Hudspeth County line, where the speed limit is 80 mph.

Drivers must wait until the new limit is posted.

West El Paso apartments loses power due to hit-and-run

An apartment complex loses power after a hit-and-run crash knocks down a utility pole early Friday morning.

Crews closed down one lane at the intersection of Estrada and George Dieter to make repairs and restore power to the Wind Tree Apartments .

Police said the crash happened at around 3 a.m. when a truck drove between two cars, making them split and lose control.

The drivers of the car who hit the pole were taken to the hospital and are being treated for minor injuries.

Police said the drivers did not get the make or model but describe it as a large truck with four by four wheels. Although police believe it's unlikely to find the truck, they said it probably has some major damage.
